Live like you were dying

He said I was in my early forties
With a lot of life before me
When a moment came and stopped me on a dime
And I spent most of the next days
Looking at the x-rays
Talking bout the options
And talking bout sweet time
I asked him when it sank
That this might really be the real end
How's it hit you when you get that kinda news?
Man what'd you do?

And he said
I went skydiving
I went rocky mountain climbing
I went 2.7 seconds on a bull named Fu Man Chu
And I loved deeper and I smoked sweeter
And I gave forgiveness I'd been denying
And he said some day I hope you get the chance
To live like you were dying.

He said I was finally the husband
That most of the time I wasn't
And I became a friend, a friend would like to have
And all of a sudden going fishing
Wasn't such an imposition
And I went three times that year I lost my dad
Well I finally read the good book
And I took a good long hard look
At what I'd do if I could do it all again

And then,
I went skydiving
I went rocky mountain climbing,
I went 2.7 seconds on a bull named Fu Man Chu
And I loved deeper and I smoked sweeter
And I gave forgiveness I'd been denying
And he said some day I hope you get the chance
To live like you were dying.

Like tomorrow was a gift and you got eternity to think about
What'd you do with it, what did you do with it
What did I do with it
What would I do with it?

Skydiving
I went rocky mountain climbing,
I went 2.7 seconds on a bull named Fu Man Chu
And then I loved deeper and I smoked sweeter
And I watched an eagle as it was flying
And he said some day I hope you get the chance
To live like you were dying.
To live like you were dying
To live like you were dying
To live like you were dying
To live like you were dying

I was driving my truck down a gravel road - and I couldn't get any stations very well - but one country station...

I don't really listen to country music - but this song was on and I listened to it.

"Well I finally read the good book
And I took a good long hard look
At what I'd do if I could do it all again"

good line

This song is wonderful. I think Tim McGraw should be given credit on this site for his song so here it is.

I just wanted you all to know that I did not give credit to Tim McGraw because I am not sure he is the one who wrote it. Just because you sing a song does not automatically mean that you wrote it. Just ask Britney. :-) If anyone knows who wrote it, I will be happy to credit them, including Tim McGraw. This song is truly great. It is very inspirational. Everyone should hear it at least once.

Hi!!! I absolutely love Tim!!! And he didn't write the song.... but that's okay.... you know he was singing about Tug when he decided to record Live Like You Were Dyin'!!!

The song "Live Like You Were Dying" was penned by Tim McGraw and Nashville songwriter Craig Wiseman.

Thanks for all your comments. And I am glad someone figured out who wrote it. I just thought it was weird that his site hadn't credited anyone for it. They may have by now. I am happy it is no longer a mystery. :-)
